Sigma Mixer

Sigma mixer, also known as a double Z paddle mixer, is mainly used for mixing or kneading materials with very high viscosity (over 500,000 cps). The Z-type paddles of the Sigma mixer are installed in two half-cylinders, which can provide combined functions of compression, stretching, folding, kneading, and mixing, making it widely used in the chemical industry, food, sealing materials, paint dyes, petrochemical industry, etc.

  • The machine comprises a motor, cover press, main body, mixing chamber and rotor mechanism, gearbox, air control system, tilting machine, heating/cooling system, rubber belt transmission and base, etc.
  • The kneader can be made into vacuum, pressure, atmospheric, Normal temperature, high temperature, low temperature, etc. 
  • The temperature adjustment method of a kneader can be the jacket, halfpipe, far-infrared tile, steam, hot water, heat transfer oil, electric heating, cooling water, chilled water, and other methods.

Sigma mixer can also be used for mixing high-viscosity materials, such as silicone rubber, hot melt adhesive, butyl rubber, plastic granules, graphite, masterbatch, and other products. The Sigma mixer mainly relies on two powerful Sigma stirring paddles to achieve the stirring effect on the material. The stirring paddle is driven by the motor and the reducer through the gear to rotate. The motor of the mixer is mainly controlled by the electric control cabinet. When mixing materials, a series of functions such as heating and vacuuming can be performed at the same time.

Sigma mixer working principle

The shearing action of the Sigma mixer is generated by a pair of Σ paddles that cooperate and rotate so that the semi-dry state or rubber-like viscous plastic material can react quickly, to obtain a uniform mixing effect.

The Sigma mixer has two specially designed Z-shaped rotating paddles installed in a W-shaped chamber. The two paddles usually rotate at different speeds and are tangential to each other directly above the saddle-shaped area of the chamber. As the paddles operate, the material in the chamber is spread, stretched, folded, sheared, and squeezed against the blades, saddle, and sidewalls. New layers of material are constantly being compressed, folded over each other, and subjected to shear forces, while new surfaces are constantly being formed.


The gap between the outer edge of the paddle and the inner wall of the cylinder of the Sigma mixer is controlled in the range of 2~4mm, to ensure that the paddle can continuously sweep all points of the inner wall of the cylinder during each rotation, and at the same time, the material is continuously in the saddle. Separation of the shape area, under the combined effect, can quickly produce a uniform mixing effect. Sigma mixer generally has three discharge methods: cylinder dumping, bottom discharge screw, and bottom discharge valve.

The equipment is mainly composed of five parts: kneading part, hydraulic system, base part, electric control system, and transmission system.

This equipment is widely used in mixing, kneading, stirring, crushing, polymerization, vulcanization, etc. of high viscosity and high elastic-plastic materials. The Sigma mixer has the advantages of uniform mixing, no dead angle, and high kneading efficiency.

When the Sigma mixer heats the material, the user needs to turn on the reducer at the same time to carry out the mixing work of the material, so that the material can be heated evenly in the box, to avoid the phenomenon that the inner material has not been heated due to the high temperature of the outer layer material. By starting the button of the electric control box, the electric reducer of the main motor can rotate. The output shaft of the reducer directly drives the large gear to rotate. The large gear drives the small gear to rotate through gear engagement, and the two gears respectively drive the two stirring paddles to rotate. Due to the different number of teeth of the large and small gears, the rotational speeds of the two stirring paddles are different, and the directions of rotation are opposite.
